Who is ABA Surveying?

ABA Surveying is one of the UK’s leading survey companies. Founded over 25 years ago, they specialise in the delivery of high accuracy topographic and engineering survey data for the rail, road, and construction sectors.

The Challenge:

ABA Surveying required a lifting aid to remove the manual handling aspect of transporting their 50-60kg scanner rig from the back of the vehicle and up onto the roof of the vehicle over 2,000mm high. It was exceedingly important that the lifting aid was extremely smooth, reliable, and safe due to not only the health and safety of its users but also, the high monetary value of both the vehicle and the scanner rig itself. Minimising the risk of damage was integral.

In addition to these requirements, the trolley also needed to be transportable, quick, and easy to fold up and load into the vehicle and therefore, just as easy to reassemble ready for its next job.

The Solution:

Advanced Handling Ltd worked alongside ABA Surveying to come up with the perfect solution for their individual application. It was decided early on that the Pronomic 90E lifting trolley model despite being able to cope with the capacity, it would not cope with the load centre distance therefore, the Pronomic 130P, a more robust model, was a much more appropriate and safer choice. In addition to this, Advanced Handling Ltd designed a bespoke attachment – a set of lifting forks measuring 450 x 450 x 60mm, the perfect size to comfortably fir their scanner rig on.

To minimise the risk of damage to both the car and to the rig, Advanced Handling Ltd suggested a stepless remote control for smooth operation and as standard, the trolley comes with a safety clutch to eliminate the risk of the trolley crushing and toppling whilst being used.

The lift was also designed with a quick release for the battery and attachment so it could not only lift to the required height but also then be dismantled as quickly as possible so it could fit into the back of the vehicle.

“We are really pleased with our Pronomic model from Advanced Handling. It’s provided us with a much safer way to handle and mobilise our new mobile mapping equipment, protecting our staff from the worries of manual handling and the Pronomic makes light work of lifting the unit up onto the vehicle.” – Mike Barrow, Managing Director, ABA Surveying Ltd.

The Benefits:

ABA Solutions now has the perfect lifting solution for their unique challenge. They have peace of mind that the trolley has been designed and built to minimise the risk of damage to their vehicle and scanner rig as well as the knowledge that the lifter is extremely safe and easy for their staff to use. This has improved their overall health and safety and reduced manual handling in their operations.
