Who are Macdermid?

Macdermid alpha electronics solutions is a global leader in integrated electronics materials and manufacturing solutions. Specialising in circuitry, semiconductor and film solutions, the company enhances product reliability and operational efficiency for electronics manufacturers.

The Challenge
The team were required to manually maneuver 750kg rolls of film through a tight space using v-bed trollies, which was awkward and inefficient. The challenge persisted for approximately four years. They reached out to various companies in the UK and internationally however none could provide a viable solution. Internal efforts to design a solution were also discontinued.
-
The Solution
In pursuit of a bespoke solution, the customer contacted Advanced Handling – recongising our capacity to deliver a tailored alternative rather than an ‘off the shelf’ product.
Advanced handling engineered a bespoke motorised mobile scissor table, designed to lift up to 800kg in a single operation. Equipped with two rear-powered castors, the unit provides smooth and efficient maneuverability. The platform measuring 840mm in width by 1350mm in length, features a half v-block to cradle and secure the rolls.
Furthermore, the table incorporates a safety edge to prevent crushing in the event of an obstruction and is controlled using a magnetic hand pendant controller for enhanced operational precision.
-
The Benefits
The innovative design of the new scissor table bring several benefits to the current operation and handling process. Its integrated safety features are designed to minimise risks associated with obstructions and manual handling to enhance overall workplace safety. The tables motorised functionality with rear powered castors ensures smooth, precise maneuverability in narrow spaces.
These design elements will reduce operator strain and improve efficiency, setting a new benchmark for safe and effective heavy-load handling.

“Tom got in touch. He came to site, met the team and understood the rather unique challenge but very early on gave us all the confidence Advanced Handling could help us. This helped build momentum behind the project so when the quotation came in the team were fully behind the proposal. The drawings when they came in cemented this and although there was some initial concerns at this end they were dealt with by quickly updating the drawings. The communication was very good & open so when it came to a final visit & test before delivery this was a formality.”
“A UK based manufacturer who wasn’t scared to take a risk on this and was willing to work with us on a solution. What is not to like?!!?” – Jason Rose, Macdermid Alpha
