Manufacturing at Advanced Handling

Jason – Head of Manufacturing

Jason is Head of Manufacturing at Advanced Handling and brings over 30 years of hands on experience within the business. In his role, Jason oversees the full production and manufacturing process for all lifting equipment, ensuring every project meets the company’s high standards for quality, safety and reliability.

Jason is responsible for the repair and maintenance in the factory, as well as playing a key role in quality control, carefully monitoring output to ensure each project leaving the factory performs exactly as it should.

What makes Jason’s story particularly unique is his commitment to the company – he has spent his entire working career at Advanced Handling. His knowledge of the business, lifting equipment, and processes is what makes him an invaluable member of the team. His favourite part of leading manufacturing is seeing the evolution of our equipment, what we produce, and how the dynamic has changed – offering pallet trucks at the beginning to now having a strong focus on goods lifts and scissor tables.

  • Leading Manufacturing and Quality

Strong leadership is essential in manufacturing, particularly because the work carried out by the factory team is safety critical and impacts product quality and reliability. Effective leadership helps minimise rework, maintain consistent standards, and ensure delivery targets are met.

Clear processes and strong oversight help prevent issues before they arise. By maintaining these standards across the shop floor, Jason ensures products are built safely, efficiently and to a consistent level of quality.

  • A Typical Day in the Factory

Jason begins his day with a walk around the shop floor, checking in with the team and reviewing progress against the production schedule. This gives him clear visibility of current builds while supporting open communication across the factory.

Throughout the morning, he moves between production bays to monitor progress and resolve any issues that could affect delivery timelines. On Monday mornings, the factory team meets for TBT to review key safety topics, including LEV and PPE checks. Every other morning, Jason circulates around the bays to ensure work is progressing as expected and to quickly resolve any issues.

In the afternoon, Jason balances production oversight with cross-team communication and quality checks, while remaining available to support the team as needed.

Although there are regular routines, every day is different, with priorities shifting based on project requirements and delivery schedules.

  • Industry Challenges

Jason believes that one of the biggest challenges in the lift manufacturing industry today is delivering bespoke designs. While customer expectations can be high, the Advanced Handling team thrives on delivering custom solutions tailored to individual requirements. Developing bespoke designs often requires careful planning and problem-solving, but with their experience and expertise, the team consistently delivers innovative solutions – even with tight lead times.

  • Manufacturing Oversight and Decision-Making

Jason makes key decisions that directly impact production quality and delivery. This can involve adjusting schedules or sourcing alternative components when needed to keep projects on track.

He ensures high standards are maintained, processes are aligned with ISO 9001, and calibrated tools are used throughout production to ensure accuracy. All equipment undergoes thorough testing before leaving the factory.

Health and safety is also a priority, with strict adherence to PPE requirements and safe working practices across the team.

  • Customer impact

Strong manufacturing processes ensure issues are identified and resolved before equipment reaches the customer, helping reduce breakdowns and minimise disruption.

Jason understands the importance of reliability, particularly in industries where equipment plays a critical role in daily operations. Maintaining build quality helps ensure customers can depend on their equipment long-term.

Jason believes what sets Advanced Handling apart from other lift manufacturers is the team’s wealth of experience across departments. Having been with the company for 30 years, he has witnessed the evolution of both the team and the equipment over time. This extensive experience gives customers confidence that Advanced Handling has a deep understanding and appreciation of the industry, enabling the company to consistently deliver high-quality, reliable lifting solutions.

  • Leadership Satisfaction and Team Development

Jason finds the most satisfaction in working with the team and seeing individuals develop over time.

He also values the strong sense of community within the business, where an open-door approach encourages communication across the company.

For Jason, working alongside a skilled team and seeing projects come together successfully is one of the most rewarding aspects of his role.
