The Challenge:

Knapp UK approached Advanced Handling on behalf of their customer, who had an auto-bagging machine on-site they needed to refill with reels and rolls of packaging. Currently, this process was completed by multiple members of staff every time and with no lifting aid. The customer recognised that this task could be carried out in a safer and more efficient manner and approached Knapp UK to solve this logistical challenge and others.

The Solution:

Advanced Handling modified two of their standard 260kg capacity Electric Freedom Plus Stacker to make it the perfect solution to lift the end customer’s refill reel which measured 1,200mm W with a diameter of 318mm and a capacity of 85kg per roll.

Freedom Plus with Boom

They added an extended Boom attachment, so it measured 1,400mm and then lengthened the legs to 1,350mm L x 1,319mm W to compensate for the larger boom. This increased the load centre to 980mm and meant the Freedom Stacker was capable of lifting 85kg reels. The Stacker reached a maximum height of 1,600mm which allowed Knapp UK’s customer to lift their refill roll up to the same height as the auto-bagging machine’s spindle. Collectively the modifications meant that the stacker was stable and was safe to use for the customer’s application.

As standard, Advanced Handling’s Freedom Plus Stackers comes with several safety features including a key reset emergency stop switch, toe guards, twin-stop brakes and a narrow mast to maximise visibility for the user so it can be manoeuvred around the workplace easily and safely.

The Benefits:

Knapp UK’s customer can now lift, handle and transport their rolls to the auto-bagging machine as well as feed the roll directly onto the spindle with ease when it’s been manoeuvred into the correct position. This not only has reduced a two-person task to a one-person task, but it has also dramatically reduced the risks associated with manual handling in the workplace.
