The Challenge
A UK-based packaging company approached Advanced Handling to find a way of streamlining their production processes to improve efficiency and increase cost-effectiveness. They used heavy reels of plastic film to wrap individual portions of vegetables and required a solution that would make handling the reels much easier.
Our client was experiencing a high turnover of staff and high levels of sickness absence due to employees having to carry out strenuous tasks that were causing injuries. Employees would try to avoid these tasks, meaning they took longer to complete. For example, tasks such as carrying heavy reels of plastic film to the production line were pushed to the side as it was difficult for the average worker to manually transport the 75kg reels. Another issue our client was facing was that reels were often dropped and damaged.
This was a large cost for the business in terms of wasted resources. Our job was to help our client overcome their handling problems and allow the business to thrive efficiently.
The Solution
Following a site visit and consultation, our expert sales team recommended our Pronomic lightweight lifting trolley with Expand and Turn attachment as the most effective solution for improving efficiency in their packaging processes.
Our Expand and Turn lifting trolleys lift reels and rolls from within the core. The roll is secured from the centre with pneumatic expandable grips which are electrically regulated from the handle control panel. The Pronomic Expand and Turn can carry loads of up to 110kg, meaning that strenuous activities become a one-person task.

The reels were now quick and easily transported with little risk of damage due to dropped product. The lightweight and manoeuvrable trolley frames are easy to move, even in restricted environments, so that the two-person job became a one-person job with improved safety and efficiency.
