Who is Cummins?

Cummins Generator Technologies manufactures the world’s broadest range of ac generators from 0.6 to 20,000 kVA under the MARKON®, STAMFORD® and AvK® product brands.

  • The Challenge:

At their location in Stamford, Lincolnshire Cummins identified a materials handling challenge which was impacting on operators. A core process at the site involved conducting a number of ‘finishing’ operations to each individual generator. The generators were placed on fixed height benches allowing the operator complete access to work around the unit. The remaining challenge to the operator was the fixed height of the units created the increased operator risk from a Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Upper Limb Disorder (ULD) and/or musculoskeletal disorder (MSD).

  • The Solution:

Cummins decided to take the progressive step of replacing all the fixed height work benches with Scissor Lift Tables to allow the operator to determine and adjust to a safe and most comfortable height to work with.

  • The Benefits:

Employees were able to work on the generators much more comfortably and safely, which increased their job satisfaction. The tables enabled Cummins engineers to work more quickly and productivity increased.
