Russian pallet driver needs some training in materials handling equipment

It wouldn’t have been out of place on You Have Been Framed, and it seems that everybody has seen this unfortunate Russian forklift-truck driver’s accident on YouTube. But here at Advanced Handling, were here to remind you that we can train your drivers in the correct technique for operating your machinery.

You can see the poor man’s accident by following this link to YouTube:

The accident occurred in a warehouse in Moscow stacked to the rafters in vodka and cognac. After carefully reversing for a few seconds, a puff of black smoke emits from the exhaust as the drivers foot presumably slips on the accelerator. He then careers into a huge stack of shelves, knocking out the bottom right support and causing the whole stack to fall onto the truck and knock over the shelf opposite.

His colleagues are soon seen scurrying around on top of the wreckage, trying to dig him out. Whilst the driver apparently escaped with minor injuries to one of his legs, the accident apparently cost the owners of the warehouse around £60,000.

At advanced handling we want to remind you that there are several hazards associated with the use of such manual handling equipment and when inexperienced people aren’t trained properly in using these lifting solutions, accidents can occur.

If you use materials handling equipment and lifting solutions on a regular basis make sure that you have the proper training processes in place to avoid accidents in the work place. Risks are easily minimised by implementing safety conscious work practice including inspecting the equipment before use, selecting safe work locations and attempting to replicate work conditions that lack high winds and bad weather.  Additional checks like removing hazardous objects and obstructions around the work area that might pose a risk such as the boxes seen on the floor in the video, or low hanging power cables.

Some manual handling equipment companies, such as Advanced Handling, offer post sales training for you and your staff to ensure that everyone is fully trained in the operation of your manual handling equipment. Investing in this kind of training means you can be sure to minimise accidents caused by operator error and avoid such tragic incidents as the one described here.

Training is offered for all our products including static and mobile scissor lifts which we can offer in a wide variety of standard capacities, strokes and platform sizes as well as a bespoke service designed by our in house team. If you require lifting solutions training or would like to find out more information about Advanced Handling, and the products and services they are able to offer please visit http://www.advancedhandling.co.uk.
