Police woman lives on a scissor lift for 2 days!
This week you may see an odd sight if you are wandering through the local shopping centre in Mission City in British Colombia, Canada. Manual handling equipment such as pallet trucks or scissor tables are common place in warehouses and loading bays but it’s not so often you see one outside a shopping centre especially with a policeman standing on it. Christine Day, a member of the “Cops for Cancer” charity group is bravely stepping aboard a scissor lift which will be raised over 50ft in the air. And it’s not for a quick trip up to look at the view. Christine will be staying on the elevated scissor lift for 48 hours. Her aim is to raise money for children with cancer and by staying on the elevated platform to “lift hope” for young cancer patients everywhere.
A meeting will take place by the scissor lift where Christine will be staying to celebrate her attempt and to offer an opportunity for survivors of cancer and families of those suffering with cancer to meet and talk as well as remember loved ones who have been lost to the disease.
Although partnering a materials handling equipment company with charity may seem like an odd pairing, it isn’t the first match of its kind.
Advanced Handling, a UK based lifting solutions company, has also committed to using its services to help others. Recently they helped build and install a special scissor lift to be used at an equestrian centre to help lift disabled riders to a level where they can easily get onto a horse. Advanced Handling are also keen supporters of animal and social welfare charity Tusk.
