PROJECT OUTLINE

Deans Foods was established in 1938 as a small family business collecting and selling eggs from local farms to local shops. Over the years they have progressed to become the UK’s largest egg marketing and production company.

Three years ago Deans changed the way packed eggs were transported through the logistics chain to a new MU Shipper. This allowed the Shipper unit to progress from being used just as a transportation device through to now making it a full merchandising unit being employed all the way through from factory to supermarket shop floor.

In order to maximise the efficiency and potential cost saving of these MU Shippers through higher vehicle load utilisation and a reduction in warehouse space, the need to double stack the Shipper was required. After looking at several options, Deans Foods approached Advanced Handling, a company renowned for their ability to design bespoke Materials Handling solutions.

“We needed a device that was light and manoeuvrable and could be used safely in our Packing Centres” explains Garth Whisker, Director, Packing Centres/Operations. “I approached Advanced Handling as they readily accepted the challenge of designing a machine that would meet all our requirements.”

After successful trials in Centres, Advanced Handling ultimately supplied 12 modified Voyager Stackers. This award winning unit has an aluminium body making it both lightweight and durable. It also has the added benefit of being of modular construction which allows the unit to be transformed back to a standard stacker should the application change in the future.

“I was exceptionally pleased with the level of service and commitment that Advanced Handling were able to provide” continues Garth “we have since used them to successfully solve several other material handling issues that we had within the Group”.

Advanced Handling has a team of Technical Sales and Design Engineers dedicated in providing optimum, often bespoke, solutions covering a wide range of materials handling issues.
